Maximize your virtual meeting experience

Many physicians have attended online presentations, webinars or video teleconferences. But an entire virtual annual meeting? You may be asking, “How is this going to work?” We have the answers.

Attendee Information

The first step is to register! Even though the virtual Annual Meeting is free to College members and FITS, it is necessary to register. Attendees may also select special sessions like the Literature Review, Allied Health Professionals course or Advanced Practice Health Care Professionals course.

Next, get familiar with the program so you can select which sessions interest you.

The College has made it easy to understand the different types of sessions:

  • Live: This session is taking place live at the specified date and time.

  • Recorded: This session is prerecorded and debuts at the scheduled date and time. After its debut, meeting registrants can access the session for viewing on demand.

  • Recorded+: This session is prerecorded and debuts at the scheduled date and time. It includes a live online chat.

A few tips: Whether it’s a live or recorded session, get ready before you participate. Move to a quiet place so you can focus on the session’s content and have pen and paper handy to take notes. Log on a minute or two before the session starts so that you can navigate to the “auditorium” and settle in.

What about other aspects of a live meeting, like social events and the exhibit hall?

“We’ve covered all of the expected features of a live meeting,” said David Stukus, MD, FACAAI, Annual Meeting program chair. “While you won’t be there in person, you can ask questions during many of the sessions, visit posters and oral abstracts, cheer on the FIT Bowl finalists, visit a virtual exhibit booth and attend a 'mixer' with other meeting attendees.”

To visit the exhibit hall, click on the Exhibit Hall icon on the virtual meeting platform. Many companies have a live chat feature so you can connect with representatives at the company you wish to visit. You can add materials to your “virtual briefcase.” And the more booths you visit, the higher your score on the annual meeting leaderboard!

Attendees will find social and networking events too. Just drop by the Networking Lounge to check out opportunities for business card exchanges, chat sessions, social media activities, and virtual cocktail parties with moderated chats on popular topics.

Other Annual Meeting essentials like a help desk, meeting resource center, e-posters and credit claiming are part of the virtual platform as well.

To assist you in keeping track of the day’s events and other meeting details, check your inbox. The College will be sending daily emails during the meeting to update you on Annual Meeting happenings. And don’t forget to follow the meeting and join the conversation on social media! Look for the hashtag #ACAAI20. See you in November!
