Named Lectures

Each year, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology presents Named Lectures during the Annual Scientific Meeting. In 2025, the Bela Schick and Edward J. O'Connell Lectures will be presented.

The allergists selected to present Named Lectures embody the high standards and achievements of the physicians for whom the lectures are named.

The College is proud to present the following Named Lectures and awards at its 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting. All lectures will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.


Bela Schick Lecture



From Buzzwords to Bedside: Making Sense of AI in Clinical Medicine

The annual Bela Schick Lecture is named in honor of one of medicine’s most respected scientists. Bela Schick was born in Hungary and attended medical school in Austria. After serving as Extraordinary Professor of Children’s Diseases at the University of Vienna, he immigrated to the United States in 1923. He was a pediatrician at Mt. Sinai in New York for many years, loved by his patients and respected by his fellows. Dr. Schick is best known for his work with Clemens von Pirquet on anaphylaxis and for the test he developed to assess immunity in diphtheria.
 


Edward J. O'Connell Lecture

This annual lectureship was established to honor the legacy of Dr. O'Connell, a past president of the College and past editor-in-chief of Annals of Allergy, who was a caring, compassionate physician with a life-long passion for treating children. Dr. O'Connell was an adept educator and authored nearly 100 original articles, along with many book chapters related to allergy and immunology.
